Year 10 Oxford Trip | Newsletter
On Wednesday 15th May a party of Year 12 students travelled to Oxford for a day of activities to develop their applications to the university. Based at Brasenose College, the day began with presentations on the university and the application process as a whole, after which girls analysed previous successful personal statements to get a better idea of how to approach this much-mythologised task. They took a tour of Brasenose with current undergraduates and were able to ask questions about all aspects of college life. They were joined for lunch by Handsworth alumnae currently studying at Oxford who then showed the Year 12 students their own colleges – we visited Worcester, St. John’s and Mansfield, looking at student rooms, dining halls, chapels, lakes and orchards. Although there were some sore feet by the end of the day, the students came away with a wealth of insights and contacts and, most importantly, with the knowledge that studying at Oxford can be an achievable goal for Handsworth girls.
