Year 9 History Plate Competition | Newsletter

Each year the History department runs a competition to design a commemorative plate for the 19th Century, based on the theme of ‘Industry and Empire’. As usual, some girls chose to emphasise the positive aspects of our unit, such as inventions and entrepreneurial spirit, others chose to highlight the darker side, such as child labour in Britain and oppression in the colonies.  Each class selected four winners, one for each house – named below. The winning plates then went through to a ‘final’ with a panel of judges made up of members of the History department! We would particularly like to congratulate our overall winners:

1st – Wendy Dai, 9H/9.3 – Keller

2nd Urvee Lungare, 9H/9.2 – Keller

Joint 3rd Hafsah Mehmood, 9K, 9.3 – Astor

Joint 3rd Binu Aji, 9G, 9.4 – Astor

A selection of the plates will be on display in the History Room soon.
