Uniform:

At King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls, we are very proud of our high expectations regarding uniform and our Sixth Form dress code and the School has a long tradition of school uniform.  The wearing of uniform School uniform plays a key role in enhancing pride, unity and a sense of community and belonging within the student body.

  • Students wear uniform to show pride in their school and in their learning.
  • Uniform promotes equality in a school environment, placing children on a level playing field, reducing peer pressure or bullying.
  • Looking smart for school can prepare students for learning. It keeps them focused on their learning and not their clothes.
  • A smart school uniform also acts to boost the reputation of the school in the local community
  • School uniforms can also save parents money as children are limited to wearing one simple outfit each day.

Pupils in Years 7-11 are required to wear the uniform of the school in the correct manner; Sixth Form students are not required to wear uniform but are expected to adhere to the Sixth Form dress code.

The uniform at King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls was comprehensively reviewed in 2022 and all stakeholders (governors, parents/carers/students and staff) were fully consulted.   The policy is fully compliant with statutory guidance from the Department for Education DfE Statutory guidance ‘Cost of School Uniforms’ (November 2021).
